One of our unique specialties is Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, or TF-CBT. It is an evidenced-based treatment that addresses the negative effects of traumatic events such as: physical, sexual or emotional abuse, life-threatening situations.
Children and Youth may experience difficulties trying to navigate through the trials of fitting in with the world around them, adjusting to changes in their own growth and development, and school or work stress. Something important to remember is that their feelings of helplessness, frustration, confusion, or anxiety are felt just as strongly as an adults.
Sometimes these emotions cause withdrawal and depression, while others experience difficulty concentrating on schoolwork, and still others begin to lash out on those around them, jeopardizing important relationships, like those within thier own families.
Counseling helps them talk openly about their problems and process their emotions. Respect for themselves and others grows and they learn how to obtain a sense of wellness and peace. They do better in school and foster more loving family relationships.
